NAVASSA: A COMMUNITY FACING CHANGE
Navassa is a quiet town nestled in the marshes outside of Wilmington North Carolina. It is place of rich culture and strong community, that hides a difficult past. With roots in the Gullah Geechee, this steadfast and tight knit community has faced a number of challenges, from the multiple contamination sites that dot their town from factories at the turn of the century to highways cleaving their way through their quiet hamlet. UNCW partnered with The Facing Project, a nation-wide nonprofit, in order to help tell the story of Navassa.
